A friend should also be willing to point things out a person wouldn't want to hear. I have a friend who is a brilliant history professor, but has a drugs and alcohol problem, mostly alcohol. Awhile back he was invited to Washington to be a part of some symposium there. They were impressed with some of the articles he's had published. He went on a drunk the week before and was in no shape to make it when the date came around. I raked him over the coals bigtime, grabbed his coat and shook him (gently) and let him know what I thought of his pissing his life away and blowing tremendous opportunities. I haven't heard much from him lately. I'll ask my other 2 friends what they think of this mirror thing. ;-)
