(NEWSER) – Altimetric, which tracks scholarly analytics, has released its annual list of the 100 most widely-discussed scientific journal articles of the year—and sitting atop the list is an article written by President Barack Obama. Obama's "United States and Health Care Reform: Progress to Date and Next Steps" was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in August, Gizmodo reports. As Altimetric notes, it was "the first academic paper to be published by a sitting president," and in it, Obama assesses the effectiveness of ObamaCare and makes recommendations for future presidents.

The article, which was fact-checked for months before publication, was discussed in 315 news stories and almost 9,000 tweets. The rest of the top 100 were featured in, on average, 229 news stories and around 1,000 tweets each. Click for the full list.
