This IMT-Advanced 'True' 4G Mobile Wireless Technology subject board ...

... was founded 17 years ago when 4G was just a vision and IMT-2000 3G Mobile Wireless systems hadn't even started to roll out. I made the last post to the board 3 years ago and no other SI member has posted for 10 years. The almost 1,000 posts made to this board previously provide some searchable historical data on the evolution of cellular mobile wireless voice and data technology. I am in the process of attempting to revitalize the board and will be posting to it occasionally. I'm hopeful that others might contribute informative articles on the subject.

I'll lead off that process by duplicating some recent posts that have been made to the 'Windows 10' subject board where 'Mobile Wireless Telephony and Mobile Wireless Computing' and particularly the latter (computing on a smartphone, phablet or tablet using high speed cellular IP packet data) are occasional and acceptable discussion topics. In the future I'll likely cross post or post links to certain articles posted here or there by me or by others on one board or the other.

Today 4G LTE Advanced standardized in 3GPP with Voice over LTE (VoLTE)is well entrenched and is the current state of the art technology for both Mobile Wireless Telephony and Mobile Wireless Computing. All 4 major nationwide Network Operators (NOs) provide phones incorporating this technology and only Sprint has not yet turned on VoLTE service but will by this fall. If you use a mobile smartphone that does not incorporate and support VoLTE it is technologically obsolete and you should be considering one that does.

4G LTE Advanced withh Voice over LTE (VoLTE)

The prior two posts on this board make a good introduction to 4G VoLTE:

• 4G VoLTE: Early Stage Global Deployment as of Q1 2015 | Message 30088724

• 4G VoLTE & SRVCC Tutorials¹ | Message 30088771

Me?

I use a year old value priced Android LTE Advanced and WiFi Samsung Galaxy smartphone with VoLTE and VoWiFi. I us it primarily for voice calling and SMS/EMS/MMS/texting with some cellular IP packet data usage on the AT&T Wireless network. Service is provided by AT&T subsidiary Cricket Wireless and I pay $35/mo after Auto Pay credit for Unlimited calls, texts and picture messages across the U.S. and 5 GB high-speed data access with speeds up to 4G LTE with access speeds reduced after 5GB allowance is used. Serious computing is done on Windows desktop computers with widescreen displays, full keyboard and mice.
