Also, the "yield" % number is somewhat misleading because it is apparently calculated from the last dividend amount and then extrapolated out to either a quarterly or monthly dividend to arrive at an annual figuree, and then that figure is used to calculate the "yield"

I believe there is an error in your explanation. According to the help file Yield = Dividend /(Current Price) and Dividend is the annual dividend. This means the last dividend is not extrapolated out to arrive at an annual figure. However, I agree with you that special payouts will distort the yield calculation.
