List Nominee from Mark, Company name/symbol: KVH Industries ---- KVHI

Forward event: Introduction of a revolutionary approach to modulating light in optical networks. KVHI is developing a technology platform known as "photonic fiber" in which optical components are built directly into a proprietary optical fiber. First product is a 40-gigabit modulator.

Impact date: Fourth quarter of 2002.

Reliable source: Transcript of KVHI's presentation at the Needham Growth Conference on January 8, 2002. Excerpt below can be found by scrolling down to the section "<slide 16>". Link: Message 16892251

In terms of where we are in the project, it's a development project. We've been working on it for about 18 months now. We have developed a new proprietary electro-optic polymer material. We are fabricating modular prototypes right now, and we've been in discussions with optical networking companies about integrating our modulator with their drivers and lasers to build transponders and other devices. So we're making good progress on this, and we're expecting to introduce this technology during 2002 towards the end of the year.

KVHI also is developing an ultra low-profile antenna that will be used in automobiles for mobile broadband capabilities. The company has extensive experience in satellite communications and technologically advanced navigation and sensor products for the military. CEO said military sales are expected to double in 2002. 11 million shares outstanding. KVHI raised almost $20 million last year at an average price around $6.50 (straight cash-for-shares deals, no attached warrants). Those shares associated with the financing have already been registered since the middle of last year. No further financing is needed. CEO said KVHI will become profitable by the middle of 2002.
