Alexandria, Virginia, Feb. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Motley Fool Inc., an Internet news site and investment education service, is cutting 115 jobs, or 32 percent of its workforce, Cnet Networks Inc.'s News.com reported, citing a company statement.
Motley Fool also plans to shut down its online marketplace, Soapbox.com, Cnet said. The Alexandria, Virginia-based company has 355 employees in its U.S. and U.K. offices, Cnet said.
Internet media companies large and small have been cutting jobs to cut costs. Walt Disney Co. said last month it's closing its Go.com Internet portal and firing about 400 workers. New York Times Co. said its online division is cutting 69 jobs, or 17 percent of its staff.
Last month, Motley Fool said it raised $30 million from Softbank Corp. and others and will team with Softbank for a Japanese venture>> |
