You folk need to believe in conspiracies a little more! ;-)

1. US has financed its debt from foreigners while the dollar was strong.

2. US still has the world's strongest / largest economy.

3. The debt will be repaid. No one is going to forgive US debt. It's not exactly a poverty case. Not yet, at least.

4. So what would any reasonable person do? Pay it back while the dollar is strong; or when the dollar weakens.

5. And foreigners do have an excellent track record for buying high, selling low. Why should this time be any different.
