Mary, yes, proportional-spacing typewriters and wordprocessors were available in the early 1970s. In fact, they were available much earlier than that. The point is that none of the technology available at the time those documents were allegedly produced was capable of producing those documents. We had this discussion, and on this very thread, at the time of the Rather's infamous, career-killing newscast, replete with bazillion confirmatory links to bazillion wordprocessors and typewriters. - Holly
