I can't say I really agree with you on that one.

So is the loss of jobs

Jobs normally go down in a recession but have now had a net increase since Bush was sworn in.

AND the fact that we are the ONLY industrialized country (other than South Africa) that doesn't have universal health care.

The ONLY part is the only thing I have a problem with. I wish there were more.

In Afghanistan there are no child labor or maximum work day laws

In a country at Afghanistan's level of development the lack of such laws may actually be beneficial. We don't like the idea of young children having full time jobs but the children are often dependent on them. Take the jobs away and they suffer and maybe starve. Economic growth will help remedy the situation. It will do so directly, and also (for believers in a lot of regulation) it creates the wealth that allows the economy to survive and even thrive with a higher regulatory burden on things like child labor and the environment.
