Corel Corporation, award-winning developer and marketer of productivity applications, graphics and Internet software, announced that its new localization tool, Corel CATALYST (TM), has been released to the market. Corel CATALYST was developed by Corel to provide a solution to problems and bottlenecks caused by a fragmented localization process. The tool provides a single, interactive environment that allows translators, engineers, and project managers to manage and track multi-faceted localization projects. "Corel CATALYST is a tremendous step forward for Corel in the area of localization," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "This new product is a revolutionary new tool designed to streamline the localization process and facilitate simultaneous shipment of localized products." Working within the integrated Corel CATALYST environment reduces the time it takes localized products to get to market. The key features of the Corel CATALYST environment facilitate the simultaneous release of localized products, maximize the quality of localized products, and ensure the consistency of translations and terminology across product lines.
The main features of Corel CATALYST include: - Pseudo Translation Expert - Validation Expert - Leverage Expert (allowing the leveraging of dialog coordinates, reducing resizing requirements) - Spell Check - Glossary Manager - Find & Replace Corel CATALYST ships with editors for all the standard resource types and allows the creation of custom editors for non-standard resource types. In addition, the tool can display file components with the following attributes: Priority, Locked, Translated, For Review, Signed Off, and Memo. The Priority attribute can be used to flag dialogs for immediate translation and sign off so that they can be captured for documentation. The Memo attribute shows that a resource has a memo attached, which can contain specific instructions from engineers, PM's etc. For project managers, Corel CATALYST provides a controlled translation and project management environment that maximizes quality. Project managers can use Corel CATALYST to generate reports and statistics to quickly and efficiently monitor project status. For localization engineers, Corel CATALYST helps to reduce build times by removing the need to recompile localized files during and after translation. The Pseudo Translation Expert allows engineers to carry out internationalization tests prior to localization. The Leverage Expert provides translation memory capabilities that are executed with fast turnaround time enabling easy file updates while maintaining coordinates. The Spell Check feature provides dictionaries to verify translations, which can also be matched to the string ID's or to actual text. Most file types can be handled by Corel CATALYST and can be associated with any editor of choice. For quality assurance engineers, the Validation Expert allows translators greater control over truncations and duplicate hotkeys, thereby minimizing localization induced bugs. And because translators work in WYSIWYG mode, they translate strings in context, improving overall quality. Corel CATALYST makes QA sampling much easier because QA specialists/terminologists can view text, hotkeys, and re-sizing in the translation phase. This improved efficiency allows the QA department to spend more time exploring the functional requirements of international markets. For translators, Corel CATALYST provides editors for standard resource types. In many cases, these resources can be viewed in WYSIWYG mode allowing for re-sizing to be carried out. This capability allows the translator to see the text in context allowing for greater accuracy and quality of translation. The Glossary Manager allows a glossary to be attached to a product. When a term appears in the glossary, Corel CATALYST underlines the string in black, and the translator then selects the desired term from the drop down list of suggested terms appearing on screen. The QuickSpell feature supplies suggested spellings.
