ADC Announces Expanded OEM Agreement with Sonda
Reseller to Offer ADC's NewNet Enhanced Services Products and Solutions Throughout Latin America MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2000-- ADC (Nasdaq: ADCT; www.adc.com), a leading global supplier of network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multiservice networks, announced today that it has signed a new contract to allow Sonda S.A. (www.sonda.com) to distribute ADC's NewNet SMserver(TM) technology - and other leading messaging and infrastructure applications - to regional wireless network operators in Latin America. Under the agreement, Sonda will resell key elements of ADC's NewNet product line, including AccessMANAGER(TM), OTAserver(TM), SGLite(TM), CALEAserver(TM) and iCXserver(TM).
ADC's NewNet SMserver software provides digital wireless operators the ability to generate additional revenue and potentially increase airtime usage by adding short message service (SMS) applications to their portfolio of value-added subscriber services. The NewNet SMserver software manages transmission of text messages to mobile handsets, providing subscribers with voicemail notification, digital pages and custom short text messages. Indeed, NewNet SMserver has demonstrated in benchmark tests that it can deliver a throughput of 1,044,000 message delivery attempts per hour on a single computer.
With the demand for SMS increasing at a meteoric rate, industry experts now estimate that wireless data may constitute 25% of (worldwide) network traffic, with more than 100 million people using such services. According to the GSM Association, growth of SMS in Latin America alone, not including voicemail alerts, is forecasted to reach 17 billion messages per month by the end of 2002 - compared with under half a billion today. A system of the power, speed and scalability of ADC's NewNet SMserver will be supportive of that growth.
ADC's NewNet OTAserver software provides digital wireless operators the ability to provision wireless services quickly, cost-effectively and securely. The server software accepts, manages, and ensures reliable completion of subscriber activation, authentication and roaming list update services "over-the-air."
The other products in the agreement allow telcos to manage their SS7 and IP access and switching requirements, and conform to lawful intercept requirements.
"ADC's NewNet SMserver solution offers speed, reliability and a clear growth path, while the other ADC solutions we have undertaken to resell have proven themselves in rigorous comparative tests against other vendors' products", said Andres Navarro, president of Sonda. "ADC clearly understands the future of messaging and the future of Latin American telecommunications."
"ADC is very pleased to be commencing a distribution relationship with a partner of the regional stature of Sonda," said Grant Wakelin, president of ADC's Enhanced Services Division. "Latin America is an important, fast growing and highly competitive market, and we plan to build on this relationship for the long-term."
