Republicans face a similar divide between libertarians (and in greater numbers vaguely libertarianish people), and the religious right (and to a lesser extent other non libertarian groups or themes associated with the party).

Such broad political parties and coalitions are likely to normally have internal conflicts, and over time to shift in various ways.
