Normally, excessive demand doesn't lower prices. It raises them. Timna will increase demand. Perhpas your hope is for over capacity later on?
I can see this as an attempt to make RAMBUS more robust a standard.

OTOH, the questions arise...will Timna be cheap enough if it uses Rambus? What will happen to Celeron?

I agree, Intel will fight it out with VIA and AMD should move to higher ground. And to think, Brian Hallapeno of NSM (and Jerry Rogers of Cyrix) had the vision but not the right core or the resources.
