Michael,
No built-in way to mass rename in MSWIN AFAIK. I asked Derek when this problem popped up for QPlus data (all Q+ index names start with !), and he said no way.

Could use a binary text editor or Perl on the master file to remove all =xx. Could go the other way on the daily wiz ascii data if you generate a list of the CDNs for Perl to use.
As an overall solution, I often used Martin Moore's PTT shareware pgm, in which you just make translation lists which are automatically involked. Once used this to prepend ind codes to stock names in MS via a one-time export then import.

Moore has a web site for support of PTT and TAS.
