The best explanation I've heard as to where the NC fits in is in the last two items of the following list: Power user MANY and varied apps. Information worker Several specialized applications, local storage,... Office staff: Secretary, some management... Few applications: Mail, Calendar, Browser, and one or two specialty apps. Factory worker One application: Inventory, Order entry... However, there is a HUGE number of those who now have a PC. Note: There is NO word processor (simple text only, maybe some HTML).
