I know you are right metacomet. I have never been able to accept it in people. I always think if only they understood and then I try to expain the logic. I was raised by a totally selfless and compassionate mother so it is such a foreign experience. But some of it has to be an inability to understand as well, which confuses the issue. As evidence for that I submit how many people believe things that science has shown unequivically are not true? Selfishness and/or an inability to understand. Now what group seems to fit into those two categories-lol? I can understand the greed. I have not been able to understand some peoples inability to understand. Becasue I see them do complicated things like get engineering or biology degrees=lol. Some simply do not easily have the capacity. We forget sometimes that 16% of the population has IQ's 86 and below (one standard deviation below the mean-standford benit standard deviation is 14. 50 +34 =84% of population has an IQ 86 and above, 16% below 86. Abstract thnking can be difficult for them. That is almost 50 million people in the United States. Add lack of education to that and, well----! We liberals understand these people often need help and their struggles are not lazyness! Those of us more fortunate have an obligation to help those less fortunate I believe. Not a nice topic, but germain if we are to exist as a species I believe.
