Ellen Goodman had an article in our local paper entitled Writing Columns, takes thick skin, male or female. As I like Ellen I am usually biased in her causes.. The last paragraph of this article is one that I thought worth sharing as it is applicable to those of us who past unpopular opinions... " As for keeping the attack dogs from nibbling away my theory after decades in this business is that you only give a few the right to make you feel rotten.You have a handful of chits to give out,penuriously, to those you trust and respect.You don't give them to just anyone with an e mail address and epithet. That seems to me a pretty good rule for opinion writing. And come to think of it, for life."
