The CONVURGE article by Cheriton and Bechtolsheim (both still at Cisco), was a good read. The fiber and bandwidth,
and cost arguements are quite compelling.

On a similar vein, have you folks seen Force10Networks ?
Dominet in flavor but emphasis is slightly different.
