.if every user can choose some updates and reject others, the number of potential configurations approaches infinity; Microsoft argues that all those untested variations make effective quality assurance much more difficult.
A software company I worked for in the 90's had historically provided fine grained fixes for specific bugs and allowed users to install whichever they cared about. Several of our biggest customers told us to stop, because it was unsupportable. We did. Is MSFT really just realizing this now?
