"* Advanced Micro# (AMD, $27.56, 2S) will likely increase its unit shipments from 28 million this year to 32 million in 2001, an estimate that is probably too conservative. The company is executing very well in its ramp of the Dresden fab, which should generate about 5,500 new wafer starts per month when fully ramped, about equal in output to the current fab in Austin. AMD seems to be having better luck at the high end than Intel."

Comment: The analysts are starting to take AMD seriously, it seems...They are starting to understand the profit implications of the transition from K6's to "spry Athys" that is currently underway, a transition that replaces an average K6 ASP of $50 with an average "spry Athy" ASP of around $200...They're starting to understand the implications of the shift in mix from 75% K6 in Q2 to 50% K6 in Q3 to 20% K6 in Q4...They're starting to understand that the the "spry Athy" is indeed for real and that AMD with its "spry Athy" entry is now ready to play on the big stage!!!
