Yes, on an idealogical level you're right, it is easy to judge the dispute from this "comfortable position", it likely sounds condescending, interfering, even trite to those involved.
At the same time, on a physical level; This is a tiny planet, getting smaller all the time. There is nowhere to hide for those of us with neutral viewpoints watching disputes with major potential for violence. My assets and the lives of my family are on the line here. The same technology that allows us to flash money, men, and arms around the globe makes us participants, whether we or the particular combatants like it or not.
