Just tried this, and it is terrific.

Slant Point- Google Maps

By Scott S on NYC

Well, Google leads the way again, merging their massive white pages with cool maps. The navigation blows Yahoo and Mapquest away.

Check out Republicans Google-mapped in NYC. maps.google.com
Then move around by holding down the mouse button on the map itself. Click on a marker. Voila! You have a link to the website and related links.

Google Maps is tied to Google local, so essentially typing in "spicy thai food NYC" gives some places, but they are all downtown, as if some center point of NYC resides under NYU. The searching isn't accurate, and you can't really "find more" entries if you miss the first time.

The website chosen as the main listed link may be anything linking to your search word or phrase. So with a restaurant without a website, you'll get Citysearch or similar, probably based on popularity.

Oddly enough, try "loony left in NYC" and you'll get markers for Viacom, the Lesbian and Gay Law Association and Winchester's Steak House. The relation to moonbats? Lots of blogs provide the answer.

Fun. Google maps will most likely improve over time.
