Having just done some of what you need to set up my new Metastock with QP, I can offer some help. You may already have done some of this, but, briefly, here's what I did.
Start with Virtual and create a new Profile. I call mine MetaVirtual, as it holds all the symbols I want to consider. Once created, save it (with nothing in it) and reboot your machine.
Now, go to Scan Database and use the canned scan for producing all symbols. Actually, I modified this to eliminate warrants, preferreds and stocks under $5. So I get just what I may want to trade.
You'll need to edit the scan to reflect the drive where you just created that MetaVirtual profile. Once the scan is run properly, it will populate that profile with some 40-45 sub directories of 255 symbols each.
Now, go to that profile, open MetaVirtual (or whatever you named it). This will take a few seconds. Now go to the top of this list, right click on the FIRST symbol under each header (numbered). This will show you the symbol for that stock. Close that window, move up to the header, right click on it and click rename, then rename it the symbol for the first stock in that list. Once done, click on the little box with the - in it and that first 255 group will close and the next group (numbered) will appear. Do that same routine for all 40+ and save the profile when finished.
Now you have a list of directories that you can go to and find any stock that you know the symbol for. Seems like a lot of work, but it goes fast and only needs to be done about monthly, give or take.
