Smart Cards are a class of embedded system. They use very low-end
processors. The two CPUs sited (i8051 and Moto 6805) are 8-bit
processors. WIND has never supported this market, or 16-bit CPUs for
that matter (except the C166), since they don't tend to require the
sophistication or power of VxWorks. Most systems based on 8-bit CPUs
are so simple that an OS, per se, is not used. They are either running
in an infinite loop, with perhaps some simple task associated with a
timer, or a state machine, or some combination of these. The address
space (amount of memory) is so limited that something like VxWorks is
not practical. VxWorks, since day one, has been targeted to 32-bit
processors.
