I think your strategy of buying IBM puts to protect your Intel investment is probably sound. Many of the same big company momentum investors have driven both stocks up, so they could go the other way at the same time. I protected my IBM profits by shorting it against the box, so I'm in the same boat. Of course, you could buy OEX (S&P 100) or Intel puts, too.
