Nortel Networks Deploys Livelink Enterprise-Wide for Collaborative Knowledge Management
Open Text Strengthens Leadership Position with Further Expansion Into
Global Telecommunications Industry
WATERLOO, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1998-- Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEXF - news; TSE:OTC - news) announced today that its flagship product, Livelink, has become the collaborative knowledge management software standard for Nortel Networks worldwide with the company deploying Livelink across the enterprise. Nortel Networks has 80,000 employees worldwide.
Initially, Nortel Networks is deploying Livelink to support three business-critical applications including employee services, product
engineering for its Wireless business unit, and the Global Knowledge Council. The Global Knowledge Council is chartered to further
facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration across the company.
''We have used Livelink for two years, and with the recent release of Livelink 8, we are now taking advantage of the new features and
improved design,'' said Terry Conlon, Director-Information Services, Nortel Networks. ''The new modular architecture, custom workspaces and expanded functionality have further improved upon our ability to work across different platforms and departments, collaborate on projects and harness knowledge across our company, which means around the world.''
''Nortel Networks' use of Livelink is an excellent example of how some of the world's largest corporations are deploying collaborative
knowledge management solutions to meet their business objectives,'' said Dan Latendre, Vice President, Product Marketing, Open Text
Corporation. ''Livelink will help Nortel Networks 80,000 employees in Europe, North America, Asia and South America to accelerate product cycles and speed innovation across all areas of the company. Knowledge management helps companies be more competitive and responsive, and Nortel Networks is among the key companies leading this trend.''
Nortel Networks' deployment of Livelink provides a central point for employees to access corporate, regional and local Human Resource news and information. The Web interface greatly simplifies the management, deployment and distribution of this information. The search facilities make it possible for employees to locate appropriate forms and documents without having to consult an HR specialist.
Livelink is also being used to support the Global Knowledge Council - an enterprise initiative to establish a learning organization culture
within Nortel Networks. Livelink is the environment the team uses to collaborate across the enterprise and will also be the key technology in the infrastructure where employees can go to collaborate and share their knowledge about new projects or initiatives within the company.
''With the addition of Nortel Networks to Open Text's already extensive list of telecommunications customers, Open Text continues to
show strong market growth,'' said Gerry Murray, Director Knowledge Technologies, International Data Corporation. ''Nortel Network's worldwide deployment of Livelink proves Open Text is answering the tremendous demand among global 2000 companies for enterprise knowledge management solutions.''
Nortel Networks is a recent addition to an already growing list of telecommunications customers, with sales from prior quarters
including: AT&T Wireless, Bell South, Clearnet, GTE, NTT, Sitel, Sprint, TMA, Newbridge Networks and Motorola.
About Nortel Networks Nortel Networks has 80,000 employees in offices around the world. The company works with customers in more than 150 countries to design, build and integrate their communications products and advanced digital networks. Customers include public and private
