Actually attended an umpire school in Williamsport in the mid-80's. Figured if I was going to do it, I might as well learn what I was supposed to be doing. <gg> That is a neat stadium.
What is really tough as an umpire, and I can only imagine as a batter, is when you see that really good curve ball for the first time. I was doing a 14-15 year old game. This pitch comes in, the batter jumps out of the box, the catcher doesn't move his glove, and I called a ball. The pitcher jumps up and down on the mound in protest. So, I called time and when out there, congratulated him on an outstanding pitch, and told him to give me a sign when he was going to do that again. <gg> I think that was the last game I ever umpired.
