That “Bully” Bolton

By Gary Bauer on Uncategorized

The smear campaign against John Bolton continues apace today. The New York Times has another “expose” accusing Bolton of being a bully, and thus unfit for his diplomatic assignment.

The evidence cited by the Times is laughable: Bolton is accused of once hanging up the phone on the American ambassador to South Korea (gasp!); and he “argued” with intelligence officials about the threat posed by foes like North Korea and Syria. (Bolton thought they were more of a threat.) Given the headlines of recent days it sounds like Bolton was right and the bureaucrats were wrong!

The battle over Bolton’s nomination has nothing to do with his alleged temper. If shouting at subordinates and believing you are right were an impediment to serving in government, half the Senate would have to resign.

If Senate liberals were honest, they would oppose Bolton not because of his personality (which they are distorting), but because of his philosophy. He believes the U.N. is corrupt, that it has shirked its responsibilities, and that the United States can and should act in our own interests. But, alas, for the Left, on these points the public agrees with Bolton!
