The difference is while you were either at a bar or sitting down on your living room couch drinking beer as the New England Patriots faced down the Atlanta Falcons, the president viewed the game from Trump International Golf Club Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, Florida, along with first lady Melania Trump and White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. Trump said before the game the Patriots would win by eight points against “the other team” during an interview with Bill O’Reilly that aired on FOX before the Super Bowl coverage. “You’ve got to stick with your friends,” he said. At first, he was hesitant to pick a winner, saying he "hates to make predictions." During the interview, Trump said he liked both New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft and coach Bill Belichick, and that he considered star quarterback Tom Brady "a winner" and his "friend." The final score ended up at 34-28, with Brady winning his fifth Super Bowl. But during the game, when the Falcons were ahead before the halftime show, some New England Patriot’s fans were frustrated with Trump’s affiliation with the Patriots and said he was the reason why they were behind.
