The Clovus Report

New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq rebound!
Ciena defies correction!
Disney rebounds!
South West Securities Oversold!

The May employment report hit the street Friday. The United States unemployment rate is at its lowest level in 29 years to 4.2%. The Federal Reserve remains biased towards tightening the interest-rate, but May's CPI, could determine the final direction of any change in interest rates. The short-term outlook for the stock market seems technically positive with Nasdaq and the NYSE both rebounding as of Friday's close.
Technical indicators seem to be showing the bottom of a short term correction in technology. The Telecom/(Photonics) sector including Uniphase, Global Crossing, Ciena and Corning Glass showed strength through out the 10 day correction. Ciena, CIEN a Clovus Report core holding closed at 29 7/16 + 1 13/16. I originally started coverage on Ciena CIEN at the 13-14 dollar level on December 19, 1998.
I see the whole brokerage sector oversold. The leaders of the sector are on sale right now with the best values in Merrill Lynch ,Morgan Stanley and Southwest Securities.
Southwest Securities SWS is the Only AAA rated IBD stock of the three. At the 54 1/8 level it is oversold and should be considered a Strong Buy at this level.

Internet Stocks: (Value plays if such a thing exists in this sector)
Disney and Infoseek are compelling plays right now. Disney looked technically strong on Friday with a 30 5/8 close. Disney keeps testing the 29 dollar support level and prevailing.
Seek dropped below its take over value by Disney at the 42 dollar level. Seek at 36 looks attractive. AOL America Online will benefit from the Court decision in Oregon to allow equal access over cable connections. GNET Go 2 Net is a value at 99 15/16 as is Yahoo at 147 7/16. PSI Net PSIX at 46 is a good play also. USWB USWeb has benefitted from more upgrades by major Brokerages. Hold on to USWB as I see tremendous growth in Web site design and administration. 26 1/16 Strong Buy
Computers and Chip makers!
Three Com COMS is still a Strong Buy at the 26 1/16 level. I took profits at the 29 dollar level for the portfolio I manage before the correction. I am adding to the 3 Com position at these levels! Intel INTC, Sun Micro Systems SUNW, Net Speak NSPK and IBM should be considered at the present valuations.
