Back in the hey-day of segregation, or more accurately its last hurrah, Leander Perez, the "boss" of Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, caught up with Earl, then Governor of Louisiana, by ambushing him (figuratively) in one of the men's rooms in the State Capitol building in Baton Rouge. Standing next to Earl in front of a urinal, Perez attempted to lobby Earl's support in opposing integration of public schools. Earl finished his business, adjusted his garments, and gave Perez a fatherly pat on the shoulder.
