is rambus going to be in servers earlier than expected??

news..
June 7, 1999 (TAIPEI) -- Four or five of Taiwan's motherboard makers reportedly are working on a motherboard with Intel Corp.'s chipset 820 for a Direct Rambus DRAM (D-RDRAM).

The product is code-named "Camino."

Some of them reportedly had planned to exhibit such motherboards at the Computex Taipei '99 show, but Intel controlled information in advance about the board. The boards were withdrawn from displays a day before the show's opening, sources said.

There was only one kind of PC demonstrated that used the 820 chipset at Intel's booth, but its motherboard was not shown.

Toshiba Corp. showed a motherboard with the 840 (code-named "Carmel") chipset for servers. The chipset has a 32-bit bandwidth, made possible by doubling the number of D-RDRAM channels.
