Mpath Interactive Announces HearMe.com Partners Program; Leading Consumer Web Sites Leverage Live Audio Community Technology and Services

June 7, 1999 07:31 AM
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 1999--Mpath Interactive, Inc. MPTH today announced that consumer Web sites and services can take advantage of Mpath's live voice chat technology for the Internet through its free live audio community, HearMe.com(TM).

Through the HearMe.com Partners Program, leading consumer Web sites can access Mpath's technology, managed infrastructure, community content and large member base to launch audio chat communities without having to build the technology and infrastructure from the ground up. HearMe.com partners can create live audio chat communities and special online events that are fully integrated into their existing sites and customized to meet their specific customer needs. Consumer applications for live Internet audio include such activities as family conference calls, online Karaoke, celebrity impersonations, music DJs, current events discussions and more. The program creates co-branded live audio communities based around popular content from leading online brands to bring live audio to both the partners' and the HearMe.com Web site.

Some of the Internet's leading consumer Web sites have already teamed with Mpath to bring live audio from HearMe.com to their sites. The first announced HearMe.com syndication partners are E!Online (www.eonline.com), Entertainment Boulevard (www.entertainmentblvd.com), Bolt (www.bolt.com), The Black World Today (www.tbwt.com), the St. Petersburg Times (www.tampabay.com) and BOXING.COM (www.boxing.com). For further details on how these sites are working with HearMe.com, see today's news release entitled "Leading Web Sites Line Up for Mpath's HearMe.com Partners Program."

Mpath vice president of syndication Tom Garland explained how HearMe.com syndication partnerships are an ideal way to bring the value of live audio communities to a broader audience. "Leading consumer Internet sites are learning how adding live audio communities to their sites brings a more personal, interactive and compelling aspect to their visitors' Internet experience," explained Garland. "Through HearMe.com partnerships, we can bring live audio to a variety of consumer sites so that it becomes a key component of the consumer Internet experience. Our partners can easily tap into this phenomenon early on by simply leveraging our experience and technology."

Adding Highly-Interactive Live Audio

By adding live audio community features to their Web sites, HearMe.com partners can create compelling places for their customers to meet people, share interests, and entertain one another for hours at a time -- encouraging Internet consumers to visit partner sites more frequently and stay online for longer periods of time.

Benefiting from Leading-Edge Technology and Experience with Live

Audio

HearMe.com is based on proprietary Mpath(TM) technology that is capable of hosting live audio chat rooms where several hundred users can hear one another and communicate in real time. Mpath's client/server software allows users to create audio chat rooms, handles compression and playback of audio streams, and communicates with the servers to ensure the best quality audio experience.

Last month, Mpath announced that Yahoo! Inc. is incorporating live audio from Mpath's HearMe.com(TM) service (www.hearme.com) into Yahoo!(R) Pager (pager.yahoo.com), Yahoo!'s popular instant messaging product. Through the agreement, Mpath is also hosting the live-audio services for Yahoo!.

Mpath has also teamed with leading organizations to use live audio on HearMe.com to bring organizations closer to their customers. Most recently, HearMe.com teamed with the San Jose Sharks to host a series of online audio chats with Sharks personalities Tony Granato, Ron Stern, Steve Sheilds and "voice of the Sharks," Dan Rusanowsky.
