The cockleburrs we had contained three seeds per pod. Dozens of pods per plant. The seeds would only germinate when things were just right. Seed 1 germinated on the first year. If it was too wet it waited a year. Seed 2 would germinate the second time conditions were right and seed 3.......

When discing in the bottoms if the tractor started losing traction I would raise the disc and look for cockleburr as it grew on the driest ground.
