Alcatel to OEM Jetstream's Voice Over DSL Solution

PR Newswire, Monday, June 07, 1999 at 08:29

Partnership Will Accelerate Deployment of Expanded Voice and Data Services
Over DSL

PETALUMA, Calif., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel (NYSE:ALA) and Jetstream
Communications announced today that they have entered into an OEM agreement
wherein Alcatel will distribute Jetstream's Voice over Digital Subscriber Line
(VoDSL) broadband access solution through Alcatel's worldwide sales channels.
Alcatel's industry leading DSL solutions combined with Jetstream's
breakthrough VoDSL technology create a powerful new solution for DSL service
providers to offer integrated multi-line voice and data services to small
business and high-end residential markets. Chosen by both incumbent local
exchange carriers (ILECs), as well as competitive local exchange carriers
(CLECs), Alcatel's DSL platforms, the Alcatel 1000 ADSL Subscriber Access
Multiplexer and the Litespan NGDLC, deliver the latest in internet and high
speed access using DSL technologies. With the addition of Jetstream's VoDSL
technology, Alcatel offers a portfolio of solutions supporting integrated
voice and high-speed data services as well as a variety of other symmetric and
asymmetric DSL solutions -- all over a single copper pair.
"Expanding the Alcatel DSL product offering to include Jetstream's VoDSL
solution is exciting, and the opportunity for service providers to deliver
expanded voice and data services over DSL to their subscribers is enormous,"
said Mike Dobbs, Vice President and General Manager of Alcatel USA's DSL
Business Unit. "We're looking forward to working with Jetstream to quickly and
cost effectively satisfy our carrier customers' needs in this rapidly
expanding market."
"We're excited to be partnering with a market leader such as Alcatel,"
said S. Sundi Sundaresh, President and CEO of Jetstream. "Alcatel's worldwide
industry presence and industry leading technology will undoubtedly contribute
to the mutual growth of our customer bases."
"We see a substantial opportunity within the small business market for
services provided by the major carriers. As Alcatel already has strong
relationships with many of these providers, the Jetstream-Alcatel partnership
is ideal for expanding solutions within existing customer bases. Specifically,
this partnership will provide the opportunity to quicken the arrival of VoDSL
solutions in the small business market," said Claudia Bacco, Senior DSL
Analyst at TeleChoice, Inc.
Alcatel and Jetstream will be sponsoring a demonstration of their joint
VoDSL capabilities at Supercomm '99 in Atlanta, June 8-10. The demonstration
will allow visitors to the Alcatel booth (Hall G, Booth #6713,) and Jetstream
booth (Hall A, Booth #1059) to make phone calls using a live voice over DSL
circuit.

About Jetstream VoDSL
The Jetstream VoDSL broadband access solution enables carriers to deliver
multi-line local telephone service and high-speed data over packet-based DSL
access networks. It consists of three components. The first, the CPX-1000, is
a large-scale voice gateway that resides in a carrier's regional switching
center and serves as a bridge between a Class 5 voice switch and a DSL access
network. The second component is a family of integrated access devices (IADs)
provided by Jetstream and its partner companies. IADs connect to a DSL line at
subscriber premises and deliver up to 16 telephone lines and continuous high-
speed Internet or remote LAN access. The last component, Jet-EMS, is a
carrier-class element management system enabling rapid deployment of
large-scale VoDSL networks.
