Well, since BRCM is rich, 700K+ stocks mean nothing to them.
Remember Mediamatics was sold for over $90M to National.
Armedia's asset is in its 30+ IC design engrs which is a rare
asset in Silicon Valley nowadays. Armedia has been tinkering
with MPEG decoders for a few years now. Has test chips that
seem to work. Maybe working on HDTV decoder as well, who knows(?).

700K+ stock of BRCM really means very little to BRCM. Really.
And this probably gives BRCM a product into the market 3 to 6 months
ahead of their original plan. It definitely worths it. To have a
team in India also lowers its R&D expenses. It also let BRCM
manage its resources more effectively from the viewpoint
of spreading the R&D capability around. If you concentrate
in Silicon Valley and LA. If the key people of R&D were not
happy and they decide to leave and form another start-up, it
will be the end of BRCM.

Buying SIGM will be better? Don't know. SIGM does not seem to
have a corporate focus. Its board biz interferes with its IC
execution.
