CW has no trouble keeping anything straight.

THe book is The Very Best Men by Evan Thomas (Early Days of the CIA); Dan read it first and recommended it to CW.

APparently these men had total freedom and unlimited funding and a great deal of hubris. They had some spectacular failures and successes. THe book is not an exposure, but attempts to explain the four men responsible for the beginnings of the CIA within the context of that time and culture.

To an 18 year old of today, that generation (yours?)is difficult to understand, based as it was on the good ol boy network, the white, prep school mentality, that privileged élitism. They were men sure of their own superior morality, which I would guess allowed them to get things accomplished that the more insecure, less aggressively self-righteous couldn't.

Dan says it's a fascinating book.
