Ted: Have you fully considered the impact of telephony on
Intel's Server and Office Desktop business?

In the past few weeks I visited Cisco and others to hear about their current IP telephony activities, so probably my mind is oversaturated on the topic.

The world wide market for semiconductors for telephony is large and probably will grow and rather than shrink as a result of computerized telephony. IP telephony requires able servers and able workstations and specialized handsets to work. The upgrade to IP telephony is currently a major driver in Cisco's growth and Cisco projects major conversion of telephony to IP telephony.

If there is such a major application transition, such as conversion to
IP telephony, to happen is it not possible for Intel to use their recent acquisitions to create demand for high priced and high performance server and desktop chips.

Personally, I believe that if Intel is to grow it needs new digital
applications of the desktop to drive high margin sales. AMD is not nearly the threat to Intel prosperity as is possibility of an absence of new applications. For Intel to re-enter "the tornado" and experience major sales growth the development of applications is key and IP telephony looks like a hot candidate to me.
