Drop the ZIP drive if you can and replace the CD-ROM with a Read/Write CD-ROM. HP makes a nice one. Its really all you're ever likely to need. Of course DVD might be nice if 'movies' fits your useage profile.

Of course, buy the most CPU you can reasonably afford - it will extend the life of your system. Memory helps too.
