Hi Mike:

Re MDSL: late in 1998 Level One Communications released a
MDSL chip. They have a white paper at:

level1.com

The document you want is ''Using Multi-Rate DSL to Expand
Digital Services Via Existing Phone Lines''

The white paper mentions the ability to reach subscribers
at 22,000ft from the CO. Maybe Adtran is getting its MDSL
chips from another vendor, or maybe the white paper was too conservative.
