With a t1 or adsl from the phone company office that is serving you you have dedicated bandwidth. With a t1 it is 1.44 mbps. With adsl it varies but is usually 786 kbps inbound and 256k outbound. With a cable modem the channel that is used is 2.3 mbps but it is shared by multiple users. I really don't know how many cable modems that they mux onto a single channel, but I have heard users complaining. Where I am there are probably not a lot of user as my response does not vary much.

Anyone have inside info on how may cable modems tipically get put on a single channel?
