Thanks Frank! That was a very informative post.

In fact, I seem to remember a time when Concentric Network offered a program to BBS's (one of the original online service providers) called BBS Connect that basically put your BBS on a private X.25 network so it could be accessed via other BBS systems (and by Concentric users). A sort of long distance out-sourcing.

Perhaps you could answer one of my nagging questions about ATHM. We have Cox Cable where I live, and I noticed that when they do start offering inet via cable, it will be using @Home. My question is...what is the physical connectivity between Cox and @Home? Does ATHM simply act as cable "backbone" of sorts (with special features geared towards broadband and other value added services)?
