I think you be thinking exactly like AOL management concerning the merger/acquisition route. Seems AOL filed to sell securities to raise cash for just that purpose (at least I'd bet that's part of what they will do with the money). I also think this MP3 thing is going to be huge - in the near future it will be commonplace to purchase individual songs, download them to your hard drive, arrange 'em and burn 'em to a CD (you can do all this now, it's just time consuming and kludged. Wait for broadband and record industry approval and AOL to get everything together on this to where it's an easy one stop point and click type of thang. I'm talkin' mass market).

As far as cable goes, remember, these are Cable Companies we're talkin' about. When was the last time you heard about the great efficiencies and customer service and satisfaction from these boys; they've only been working on it for twenty five years and still don't have it right. They even made a movie about the stereotype - The Cable Guy. I'd wager that it will be 2 YEARS+ until I can call TCI and get broadband internet access from them (in my techno backwards and redneck state of Oklahoma) even though it is being touted like it's everywhere TODAY RIGHT NOW. I really don't care what company provides the high speed access - I would pay for it if available. In the meantime everyone will go satellite, wireless, DSL, ISDN, whatever works at whatever fastest speed possible by whoever offers it at a halfway competitive price.

Until TCI or whoever comes and buries a fiber optic cable in my yard and hooks me up to a proprietary high speed digital TV/internet/set top combo, I won't worry too much about AOL. Content will be worth more anyway.

Yours in prophesyin',
C Nelson
