Jach: Agree. As you know, the cutting edge on the net is fixed wireless besides, DSL, and Cable. The speed with fixed wireless is up to 155 megabits per second, DSL is 6 megabits perScd, and Cable is 20 megabits perScd. All three have their advantages & disadvantages. As you know, MCI & Sprint , looking to bypass the cable & telephone wires controlled by a handfull of competitors. Both are spenting huge amount of money on cellular like technology and in recent months have spent quit wildly according to Associated Press. They have gobbled up just about every purveyor of a fixed wireless offering Microwave Multipoint Distribution Services (MMDS). Yesterday, Motorola & CSCO announced a new partnership to develop LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Services) networking equipment. As you know, the move by CSCO, points that CSCO the largest networking company is focusing on fixed wireless as the next phase in this new world communication environment. Fixed Wireless is the means to provide a variety of high-speed communications. In my opinion, 3COM is a networking leader and has the cutting edge on Fixed Wireless techonolgy. In this case, CSCO the giant has missed a step to change in time. Yes, CSCO will succeed however 3COM is one step ahead of the giant. 3COM is doing the right things. As I mentioned before, EricB can not take it to the next level. In any case, when, 3COM trims the dying unprofitable divisions look for a buyout. "Again, 3COM manufacture the things that make communications work" Also, if and when Far East Asia economies get moving, look at fixed wireless techonolgy to explode because it is cheaper and it is an easier way to bypass cable and phone systems than digging up the ground for new fiber optic networks. --- Al.... Note: I hold a position in 3COM. |
