Stac Software Wins New Patent for System Replication And Bare-Metal Restore Technology Tuesday, June 8, 1999 08:00 AM
Patented Object Replication Technology Radically Simplifies System Recovery, Provides Y2K Safety Net SAN DIEGO, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Stac Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: STAC), the leader in recovery solutions for remote Windows networks, today announced that U.S. patent number 5,907,672 was issued by the U.S. Patent Office for Object Replication(TM) technology, a key enabling technology behind the company's award-winning Replica bare-metal recovery product line. The patent adds significant value to Stac's intellectual property portfolio and product line, and confirms Stac's position as the leading technology provider for distributed systems recovery. Doug Whiting, Ph.D., Stac's chief technologist, is the patent's author.
"Object Replication allows users to create point-in-time copies of their servers to tape for fast, easy backup and bare-metal disaster recovery. This is especially valuable for distributed enterprise sites that don't have regular access to on-site technical personnel," said John Ticer, president and CEO of Stac. "Such capabilities are critical for testing, disaster recovery, and rollback for Year 2000 and other contingency plans. This patent also represents significant value to our OEM and reseller partners, allowing them to enhance their products by providing this unique benefit to their customers."
"As a strategic partner, we're pleased to see Stac's technical expertise in distributed systems recovery further enhanced by the issuing of this patent. Such technology is key to Legato's disaster recovery module for NetWorker, and the NetWorker Remote products that provide our customers with flexible, easy-to-use solutions for data protection," said George Symons, vice president of product management, Legato Systems.
Object Replication complements traditional file-by-file backup technologies. It allows users to efficiently protect valuable server data by replicating entire volumes at the highest possible speeds. It also ensures the most complete and reliable full-system backups, relieves network administrators of burdensome file restore tasks, and empowers end users to restore their own individual files by way of familiar software such as Windows 95 or Microsoft Explorer. This technology also allows for "any one can do it" system recovery, perfect for branch offices or remote sites.
