Interprovincial Satellite Services Ltd. IP ANYWHERE Commercial Service Available
CALGARY, ALBERTA--Interprovincial Satellite Services Ltd. ("INTERSAT") and SCADANET International Inc., an authorized INTERSAT service provider, announced today the availability of INTERSAT's highly anticipated IP ANYWHERE service. Northstar Energy Corporation is the first major client.
"We are pleased to provide IP ANYWHERE service for a recognized industry leader such as Northstar", said Dan Fehr, SCADANET's President. "Currently in Alberta there are over 100,000 operating wells that are attended to once a day or less. Our goal is to reduce operations costs and provide environmentally friendly solutions for continuous site monitoring and site control for oil and gas operators. Using IP ANYWHERE services, operating companies will benefit from revenue enhancement and cost reduction through the use of leading-edge communication services and advances as provided by INTERSAT."
The IP ANYWHERE service, an industry first, uses wireless (mainly satellite) and Internet technologies to provide production reporting and 24 hour/day 7day/week site monitoring, as well as supervisory site control. Production data and wellsite control is available through the Internet via a standard web browser.
"The system requires almost no training", said Bob Guy, Northstar's Facilities Engineering Manager. "Our operators and office staff were using the system within a half hour. IP ANYWHERE makes wellsite production and equipment operations data available on a company wide basis, and there are no geographical barriers. Our engineers can make program changes to the site Remote Terminal Units (RTU) from an internet-ready office PC. We see advantages not only in the timeliness of the data and the communications reliability, but also cost saving in streamlining the flow of business data."
IP ANYWHERE services are now available to extend the Internet past the desktop office PC to include all of the electronic devices and assets in the field owned or operated by industrial customers. This includes fixed assets such as oil and gas wells, compressor stations, pipelines, fluid storage tanks, utility meters, environmental meters, and mobile assets such as rail cars and truck trailers. With IP ANYWHERE, customers have access to their assets, regardless of nature or location, as a secure extension of the Internet or corporate intranet, for a low monthly fee.
"In conjunction with our authorized service providers, such as SCADANET, we are pleased to be offering IP ANYWHERE services to this market today through a unique, tightly engineered and value-conscious offering", said Jim Knight, INTERSAT's Chief Executive Officer. "This represents somewhat of a new paradigm for what has traditionally been called SCADA. We call it EDATA, for Enterprise Data, and its about simplicity of data service adoption, integration, operation, maintenance and management on an enterprise-wide basis. IP ANYWHERE facilitates this through a service network to which corporate users may subscribe, with the nature and quality of the technology embedded in this network enabling a revolution in service content and price points. This allows us to offer an unmatched value proposition to our customers."
