Encrypted Game Bundle Represents A New Paradigm In Delivery of Electronic Content Via The Internet
Warner Advanced Media Operations (WAMO), a business unit of WEA Mfg., a Time Warner Company, announced today the release of the Accolade Family Spectacular, the first encrypted game bundle for personal computers. The disc is comprised of a full length version of "Golf My Way" - 10 private lessons from Jack Nicklaus in MPEG-2 video and Super Bubsy, a leading children's game. Included are trial versions of three new release Accolade game titles: Jack Nicklaus 5, HardBall 6 2000 Edition, and racing Test Drive 5, along with the full, playable versions of each of the games encrypted on the disc for play after purchase via the Internet or by phone. The Accolade Family Spectacular is the initial project for the WAG team, an exclusive business association between Warner Advanced Media Operations, Accolade, Inc. (now Infogrames North America) and Greenleaf Technologies Corporation. The three companies are marketing multiple computer game titles on a single DVD disc for distribution through PC-OEMs (original equipment manufacturers). The DVD software will be encrypted by Greenleaf, utilizing the company's proprietary "DigiGuard"(TM) security technology. Richard Marquardt, Jr., Senior Vice President and General Manager of WAMO, explained, "The Accolade Family Spectacular, by aggregating several full length CD-ROM titles on a single DVD, creates a new revenue stream for both publishers and OEMs." Christopher J. Webster, Executive Vice President of Greenleaf, further explained, "Greenleaf's encryption technology is a revolutionary content delivery system and business model with a range of applications that extends beyond computer game bundles. For now, we are focused on the PC-OEM market as users switch from CD to DVD drives. We see this new paradigm extending to the way electronic entertainment software is distributed through retail." Warner Advanced Media Operations is the largest DVD manufacturing facility in the world, and represents over one third of the worldwide DVD capacity through the WAMO Worldwide Affiliate Program. WAMO is the co-developer of the DVD replication process and provides a complete DVD solution, including video compression, encoding, authoring and replication.
