PB,

Re:" 1) PII Mobile is a dumb shrink, not true .18 design rules.

2) .18 ramp is not late. How do you figure? Cumine is targetted for Q3 release. Q2 isn't even over yet. Dixons to ship Q2.
Struggling to see how you came up with this statement, which is false."

At one of Intel's conference calls last year Q3 I believe they stated they were bringing 0.18 micron into Q2 99.

The analysts have been talking about what a great ramp Intel is having with the 0.18 which will give them a competitive advantage in 2H 99 over AMD.

The facts are there are no 0.18 micron parts out there.

And the best speed they are coming out are at 400Mhz this is not the stellar jump everybody forecast. Folks were forecasting 600Mhz laptops with geyserville technology in Q3 of this year.

Now Intel is talking of barely getting to 600Mhz with its first Cumine parts and barely by end of Q3 in any real volumes.

As far as the dumbshrink is concerned the transistors still should be the minimum geometry and so should run pretty fast even though the die size is not optimal. This is a far cry from 600Mhz laptop chips IMHO.

Recently Intel has been learning bad tricks from AMD : Overpromise and underdeliver.

I sure hope they keep it up!!! for a while until I buy in.

Regards,

Kash.
