Not sure about DVD. I know that the linux community has made some breakthroughs with creative on other hardware issues so it might be coming. Try searching this site freshmeat.net it's a clearing house for new open source software releases also slashdot.org is a great site for current news on linux issues. You might try a search here too. I know DVD was discussed recently.
