I would like to take the opportunity to commend you on the work you do on this thread. I find your posts insightful and encouraging.

Your post (#21922) concerning Rambus estimates included a figure by REH. That number is actually an estimate I came up with and Rolv asked for my permission to use it on the threads.

Rolv is an old friend of mine who I met on the beach in Monte Carlo in 1984. I was impressed with his knowledge of both hardware and software. At the time, Rolf was working for a Norwegian company but he wanted to come to the U.S. I hired him and he worked for me for about two years. He is an honest, hardworking guy (I am saying this because I saw some less-than-complimentary comments about him on this thread.)

On to the numbers: I based my figure ($23 eps in 2002) on a percentage of royalties on the total semiconductor business, which in 1998 was about $125 billion. I projected Rambus' earnings per share for a 12-month calendar period in 2002, adjusted for the expected growth of the semiconductor business. The reason I did that was because I talked with Rambus' VP Subodh Toprani, and he told me the non-PC environment presented an opportunity for Rambus that exceeded the PC potential by several hundred percent. The total semiconductor universe is easier to work with because the numbers can be obtained on an annual basis and are relatively reliable.

I just wanted to state where the numbers came from.
